Advantages Of Co-Sleeping (continue...)
6. Breastfeeding Is Easier
Sleep-sharing babies tend to breastfeed more than babies who sleep alone as there is no
need for mothers to go to another room to get the baby.
Mothers who share a bed with their babies tend to extend breastfeeding for a longer time,
perhaps because they find it easier to breastfeed in bed rather than getting up during the night to feed their baby.
The baby does not have to cry to bring his mother, and the mother can nurse half-asleep.
There's less disruption to both mother and baby's sleep.
7. Night-Time Danger Is Reduced
As far as parents are concerned, whether co-sleep or not, we don't want any danger happen to
our kids day or night. However, no matter how carefully we child-proof our house, night-time danger may still occur.
Children have perished in fires, have suffocated under the pillow or blanket, have been abducted from
their beds, have died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and have been injured in other ways during bed time.
While parents can't prevent totally the children from unpredictable danger, co-sleeping allows parents
to quickly respond if any such danger happens to the kids. It can reduce or even prevent the danger from
happening if they are close by to help.
8. Less Sibling Rivalry
Night time is usually more peaceful than day time as everybody is about to settle down and rest.
During this moment, it is where brothers and sisters are more receptive to each other and have more
brotherly-love conversation going on between them.
When siblings sleep together, a deeper sense of love and trust often develops between them,
lessening sibling rivalry during waking hours. Such siblings have a greater opportunity to establish
important emotional bonds and a deep and lasting relationship.
9. Kids Will Cope With Life Better
Well, this is very subjective. Sleeping arrangements cannot make your baby into a particular type
of person or how he handles things at a later stage of his life.
However, co-sleeping teaches a child to be comfortable being in touch with people and more affection.
They are also believed to be more outgoing, more independent, more confident, having higher self-esteem
and able to cope better with stresses.
This is probably because they receive constant reassurance of love and support during day and night,
instead of having to cope with feelings of fear and abandonment night after night.
