What if you are not bonding with your baby?

While I was quick in bonding with my babies, some mamas aren't as fortunate as I'm. It may take them days, weeks or even months to fully bond with their babies.

One of my friends exactly having this problem after she had given birth to her beautiful daughter. Due to unknown reasons, she had a long and difficult labor and finally had to undergo cesarean surgery.

While she loves her little baby, she finds it hard to stay close with her baby while recovering from the surgery. Breastfeeding was difficult, bathing the baby would cause pain to her, and even holding the baby would strain her greatly.

Fortunately, with help from her parents, she managed to just rest and relax with the baby, while more demanding jobs being handled by the parents.

You Are Not Alone

Many mamas would also have similar problems, like trying to recover from cesarean surgery, overwhelming with a colicky baby who cries frequently, having difficulty to nurse the baby, sleep deprived, etc.

These mamas are stressed out. Their relationship with their babies may take time and effort to build.

However, with extra effort and time, most new mamas do begin to develop a bond with their babies within a month or two, and most babies eventually form a secure attachment to their mothers.

Just Rest And Relax

Having a baby can be stressful. You can begin bonding with baby by being relaxed and letting it happen. Try listening to your baby's responses, both verbal and nonverbal, and notice how he is reacting.

If your baby responds positively, respond affirmatively and continue what you're doing.

If your baby responds by looking away, fussing or even crying, my suggestion is to let him rest.

Being sensitive to your baby's needs and is emotionally available to him gives you a way to relax and interact with baby.

Let's Give Yourself and Baby Time

Each baby is a unique little individual who has a unique personality. Also, he will be changing from day to day.

What I'm trying to say is that different methods work for different babies, and even for the same baby, he may respond differently to the same activity from time to time.

Don't force yourself and your little one. Take time to just enjoy and love your baby. Caring for an infant is very demanding, so both you and baby need time to just play together.

Some of the best bonding happens when you're relaxed and having fun. Before long, you'll see results that you so desire.
